Video switching

Switching decides how quickly a room can move from a laptop to a camera to a video, and how much can go wrong while it does.

Also in video

Rooms have several sources — a lectern input, a floor box, a document camera, a media player, a video conference — and a switcher chooses between them. Clean switching, sensible defaults and simple control are what make that invisible to the person presenting.

What we set up

  • Inputs at the positions people actually present from.
  • Clean switching, so there is no blank or flash between sources.
  • Auto-detection and sensible fallbacks when a source disappears.
  • Control on a panel or touch screen, labelled by what it does rather than what it is.
  • A defined start state, so the room is always found in a working condition.

Standards and cabling

Cable types, distances and connector standards are planned for the resolutions the room needs, with spare capacity — recabling a finished hall is expensive.
